The district’s current budget of $29 million is utilized to employ 350 individuals and many additional substitute employees who provide quality education to nearly 3,000 students. Grant funds in excess of $5 million provide supplemental academic support and after school programs for school age children and early childhood education opportunities for preschool children. The school service fund utilizes its $1.5 million budget to provide breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner to most of our students. Additionally it is used to provide over 800 athletic opportunities for our students and to maintain the district owned city park. In the summer months, softball leagues at the park provide recreational activities for the adults in our community. Finally, many maintenance and safety projects are funded with the $677,000 annual sinking fund budget.

This presentation was recently made available by the superintendent to all interested employees and community members. Once enrollment projections are finalized, the Board of Education will address the task of balancing the budget for adoption in June 2009. Great ideas are generated by looking at issues from a wide range of perspectives and I welcome any comments or input you may have at any time.
